I did this series of silk paintings during a time when I wanted to explore alternative mediums in painting. Up until this time period in 1995, I had primarily painted using oils on canvas.  I had wanted to explore surface materials that were more portable and easily storable. At the time, I had a great interest in Hermes scarves and Amish quilts. People used to ask me if my silk paintings were scarves. I think of these silk paintings as wall hangings. They are part sampler patterns and part studies for future designs.
