Tuareg Blue

Taureg Blue was the Italian wool company name given to this particular color of roving wool that I chose for the foundation of this hand-felted series of ‘silk paintings’. The references of the “Tuareg Blue” series title has parallels to ”The Dreamtime” series, because although the materials, techniques and imagery are different, the original thought process in working on both series was to try to tap into the intangible and spiritual concepts of land, place and time through artistic practice and technique.

Like “The Dreamtime” acrylic on paper paintings, these “Tuareg Blue” felted paintings are meant to be viewed as topographical maps. Like “The Dreamtime” that references the pre-colonial Australian Aboriginal, “Tuareg Blue” references the nomadic Berber people of pre-colonial North Africa.  In the specificity of a title, my hope is that one can see the larger context from which we can all find meaning through collective and universal themes.
